March Member Spotlight: Cheryl Mortvedt, Realtor®

 March 3, 2023      webadmin

How long have you been working in the real estate industry?
Almost three years.

How did you get into real estate?
I spent the first 25 years of my career in Accounting, Business, and Consulting. After several personal transactions in a multitude of real estate areas (including land, our family home, my folks’ estate and more), I realized I could apply my love of consulting and caring for people to real estate.

What was one of your greatest challenges starting out?
Putting myself ‘out there’ was very unusual and difficult for me. I finally realized that I had to become known and be a name people would recognize. I just set aside my fears and anxieties and said…If not NOW, when? Let’s Do This!! I still get a little anxious about having my face everywhere, but the results are proving how valuable it is.

What support or advice did you find most helpful when starting out in the industry?
BE PATIENT. A real estate career and client base take time to build. I feel like that is finally happening now.

What do you enjoy most about working in real estate?
Meeting people, learning about their needs, and helping guide them through to their goals, as well as keeping the process fun and as stress free as I can.

What is your proudest achievement or favorite memory working in real estate?
Helping a young lady that used to babysit my kids get into her first home. I’ve been certified in all sorts of things and received some great awards, but watching people reach their goals and even being a small part of that is priceless. That’s what keeps me going.

What advice would you give to someone new to the industry, or someone considering real estate?
Get connected in every way you can: friends, church, local activities, volunteering – get creative. Build relationships and ‘love on’ people. ALWAYS do what is right for your client regardless of how badly you need the sale. That’s what people will notice and why they will refer others to you. That’s how people will trust you.

How has being a member of RASCW benefited you?
The resources provided by RASCW have been really helpful. I am a lifelong learner and knowledge junky. I take as many of the classes and webinars, and read as many articles as I can.

How are you involved and making a difference in your community?
I love being connected to the communities and helping local businesses. I strive to bring awareness to all the offerings we have close to us: shops, restaurants, events, parks, etc. We are blessed to live in Southern Wisconsin. It has so much to offer; I want to make sure people think local first.

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, alive or not, who would it be?
My Dad – he passed unexpectedly in 2019 and we have a LOT to talk about.

Outside of work, what makes you happy?
Being outside with my family, usually mountain biking, skiing, or just hanging out. I enjoy good wine and a good book, too.
